Lonnie Fisher may well be the busiest songwriter in Lawrence, gigging nearly every week both solo and with his band the Funeral (so named because of the big white hearse they ride to shows). If there are any traces of goth in the band's sound, it's more Echo and the Bunnymen and Joy Division than Skinny Puppy. The '80s play a big role, as do classic crooners like Roy Orbison and the Everly Brothers. Much of it is fairly dark in tone, but performed with a toe-tapping ebullience. Three years removed from his previous album "Ghost of the Ballerina," Fisher will debut a new album in the coming months.
