Sera Cahoone's best-selling record doesn't feature any of her songs: it's the Band of Horses' "Everything All the Time" album, which she plays drums for. At the time that record was breaking through, however, Cahoone was hard at work honing her own body of songs, which surfaced on a self-titled 2006 album. Pursuing a country-noir muse speckled with reflective acoustic numbers, soft drums, violin, banjo, and pedal steel, Cahoone's new Sub Pop release "Only As the Day Is Long" calls to mind twilight mood-setters like Cowboy Junkies and Mazzy Star.
