Detroit's Electric Six mixes garage, glam, disco, punk, new wave, and metal into cleverly dumb, in-your-face songs like "Danger! High Voltage" and "I Buy the Drugs." Renowned as one of the most fun live acts on the map, the group's campiness acts as a mask for existential soul-searching and long-buried childhood traumas. Or maybe not-maybe they really are just rock and roll's equivalent of Johnny Knoxville. The group's most recent LP "Flashy" features the long-awaited sequel to the group's song "Gay Bar" and a song about falling in love with a graphic designer. It's vintage Electric Six, which is to say it will make you giggle like a little schoolgirl and pump your fist like a WTO protester.Co-headliner Local H has been soldiering on admirably since penning its primo alt-rock hit "Bound for the Floor" ("You just don't get it / You keep it copacetic") way back in 1996. Guitar-and-drums duo Scott Lucas and Brian St. Clair make the most of their streamlined setup with rapid-fire drums, thick chugs of distorted guitar and some minor-key modes that would make Jimmy Page proud. The group's new album "Twelve Angry Months" is one of the most potent breakup documents since Springsteen's "Tunnel of Love."
