The Lawrence-Douglas County Unit of the NAACP is excited to announce their theme for the 2008 Freedom Fund Brunch & Awards Ceremony. The theme is "Power, Justice, Freedom, Vote" and the focus of this strong message will be geared toward encouraging everyone to exercise the hard-won right to vote. Sate Representative Barbara Ballard, an experienced educator and administrator at the University of Kansas, dedicated legislator and a leader in civic involvement will deliver the keynote address at the event. Special recognition will also be given to the following individuals and organizations who are being honored for their leadership and contributions in Lawrence and Douglas County:¢Youth Impact Award Devin McAnderson¢Community Activist Award Reta Cosby and Andrea Partee¢Religious Leader Award Rev. Delmar White¢Business Impact Award Lawrence Transit System¢Minority Business Award Watson's BarbershopThe Freedom Fund Banquet benefits the Lawrence-Douglas County NAACP Scholarship Fund and branch operations. It will be held on Oct. 25, 2008 at Maceli's on 1031 New Hampshire in Downtown Lawrence.
