The Lied Center of Kansas presents the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra performing works by Jewish-American composers including Bernstein, Copland and Sternberg.Now celebrating its 60th season, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra was originally founded as the national radio orchestra of Israel. The JSO expanded to its current configuration as a full orchestra ensemble in the 1970s and is known worldwide for performing a vast repertoire including classical masterpieces, contemporary compositions and commissioned works by Israeli composers.Celebrating the American Jewish Diaspora, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra presents works by three of the most important and influential composers of the 20th century. These composers defined the sound of American classical music all writing from the same cultural heritage.Presenting Leonard Bernstein's inspired Serenade with guest solo violinist, Robert McDuffie, Aaron Copland's expressive Symphony No. 3 and Erich Walter Sternberg's informed The Twelve Tribes of Israel, the JSO will fill the Lied Center with rich, memorable classical pop.Tickets are on sale at the Lied Center Ticket Office (785-864-2787 voice or 785-864-2777/TDD), the University Theatre Ticket OfficeMurphy Hall(785-864-3982), SUA OfficeKansas Union (785-864-SHOW), and online at www.lied.ku.edu.
