The time: 1962. The place: the border between North and South Korea. A U.S. soldier sent to guard the peace in South Korea deserts his unit, walks across the DMZ and disappears into North Korea. This is the story of Comrade Joe, the last American defector in North Korea. The film documents his rise to media notoriety as the star of the North Korean propaganda machine.
