Event details

Ken Lovern's OJT (Organ Jazz Trio) will be playing funky instrumental organ jazz at the Jayhawker Pub at the Eldridge Hotel the first Wednesday of every month starting February 6. The Eldridge has been hosting jazz night a couple of Wednesdays a month. If the support continues, jazz could be a weekly Wednesday fixture.OJT consists of Ken Lovern on Hammond Organ, Brian Baggett on guitar, and Kevin Frazee on drums. The group's self-titled CD earned Ken Lovern the "Unsigned Artist of the Month" honor in the May 2006 issue of Keyboard Magazine. In late 2006, OJT teamed up with vocalist Bukeka Shoals and released "OJT + B" to warm reviews.OJT has been working on a new instrumental recording at Daybreak Studios in Lawrence. This time OJT has put away the digital recording gear and computers and is recording to analog tape in order to re-establish the warm sound of the organ jazz records of the 60's and 70's.OJT plays many tunes in the style of predecessors such as Jimmy Smith and Brother Jack McDuff. The group also plays modern pop tunes such as Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" in their own unique boogaloo-inspired way. Even Grateful Dead tunes have made it into the OJT set list. Lots of original compositions by the group are featured as well.
