With its four members spread across the country-living in Cleveland, Brooklyn, Rochester, and D.C.-the time that Aloha spends together must be something special. Their "Light Works" EP was released in January-more of their mellow, enjoyable rock akin to Nada Surf or Death Cab for Cutie.Chicago's Anathallo are on the experimental end of the pop spectrum-subdued, complex vocal harmonies play in front of a wide array of instrumentation: pianos, horns, all manner of percussion, the sound of air escaping balloons, etc. The crescendos, shifting time signatures, and attention to detail are comparable to Sufjan Stevens.
