Event details

Funny man Neil Hamburger makes the cursed leap from stand-up comedian to country singer on his new Drag City LP "Neil Hamburger Sings Country Winners." While the music is actually pretty authentic truckstop fare, it mostly serves as a canvas for Hamburger's vulgar, side-splitting rants on topics like recycling ("Stop tainting the waste stream with pieces of wood and old underwear") and the government ("How can I still be patriotic when they've taken away my right to cry?"). Hamburger still channels the kind of schmaltz and parody that informed Andy Kaufman's routines as Tony Clifton, but he's sharpened his cranky-old-man character and learned to write punchlines that don't involve celebrities or his ex-wife. Set against the red-white-and-blue backdrop of country music, no easy target escapes Hamburger's ire.
