Bryan Scary & the Shredding Tears
with The Tanks
Few indie bands possess the heightened ambitions and certifiable chops of Bryan Scary & the Shredding Tears. The Brooklyn outfit began as the solo project of Mr. Scary, an XTC aficionado who played everything on his debut self-titled album except drums (performed by Jeremy Black of Apollo Sunshine). Scary's sophomore release "Flight of the Knife" is a conceptual work centered around the sky and outer space that takes production cues from Todd Rundgren and E.L.O. In other words: it's super badass, like Ben Folds but with more guitars and just as much pomp.
