HIFI Handgrenades is the new project of songwriter John Speck, formerly of The Paybacks and The Fags. Following the latter's dissolution in 2006, Speck sought to form "an honest, no-frills band echoing the melodic sound of the Descendents and Dagnasty, combined with the attitude of mid-western greats such as 'Stink' -era Replacements and Naked Raygun." Part punk and part pop (not of the played-out Blink 182 ilk), the new four-piece visits Lawrence en route to a Canadian tour with Foo Fighters and Against Me.
