Since disbanding The Dismemberment Plan in 2003, it's been an uphill climb for Travis Morrison. Critically lauded by indie fanzines and devoted groupies, the Plan flipped the Washington D.C. hardcore sound upside-down by injecting great melodies and twitchy, algebraic rhythms. Morrison's first solo disc "Travistan" earned mixed reviews (including a bizarre and seemingly vindictive 0.0 from Pitchfork) but succeeded in challenging expectations with adventurous electronic beats and even some introspective folk tunes (wry observations and sharp self-flagellations intact). Last year's follow-up "All Ya'll" (Barsuk Records) introduced his current band the Hellfighters, an outfit that dips back into the Plan's bag of tricks with a lock-down rhythm section and copious dance beats.Giant Squid LK sound a little like This Heat with a laptop instead ofa drummer. Both members are former bass players for the band Ghosty.Pela is no longer playing this show.
