Event details

"Hill country boogie" is the term often used to describe the North Mississippi Allstars, a Southern power trio influenced in equal measure by delta blues, gospel and classic rock. Founded by brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson (both of whom learned the ropes from juke-joint gurus like R.L. Burnside), the band's early recordings were stacked with southern-fried blues standards like "Shake 'Em On Down." Subsequent efforts veered more towards southern rock in the vein of ZZ Top or The Allman Brothers; a niche that powered the group towards the top of the festival circuit. The Allstars' latest LP "Hernando" revisits the raw juke-joint mojo of earlier efforts. Paired with a detour into traditional acoustic Mississippi Folk Music ("Volume 1" of which is now available online and at shows), the group continues to extend its creative chops. This will probably be the Allstars' only tour until 2009, as Luther will be busy playing lead guitar for the Black Crowes.
