Tonight's "Granada String Thing" features four of our holler's preeminent twang purveyors.Billy the Squirrel's line-up recently changed with the addition of special guests on fiddle and banjo, while retaining the original essence of their sound. The band's music ranges from bluegrass harmonies to extensive improvisational rock and funk jams.Deadman Flats blur the drunken line between fact and fiction, chronicling the misadventures of everyday boogans and dudes who pick up greeters at Wal-Mart. Only Hutchinson could have spawned such a bass-ackward brand of bluegrass, but only Lawrence could make it sound right at home. The string-band quartet is regarded locally as the kings of "PLAB" i.e. partying like a bitch. That Damn Sasquatch is a Scruggsy local bluegrass outfit with high-lonesome harmonies. Bret Resnick contributes some tasty roadhouse pedal-steel licks, and banjo picker Spencer Crawford is no slouch under the fast-pick radar gun. The six-piece group released its debut album "Whiskey By and By" last year and made an appearance at this year's Wakarusa Festival.Tiny Tuxedo is a rowdy band of locals who stir up a mighty fine hootenanny with acoustic guitar, upright bass, pump organ and drums.
