Fresh off a tour supporting The Black Crowes, San Francisco's Vetiver swings through town with its Arthur Magazine-approved pysch folk. The group's soothing melodies are measurably less obtuse than those of frequent collaborator Devendra Banhart, though no less ambitious. Songwriter Andy Cabic has earned well-intentioned comparisons to Nick Drake and Neil Young, and his mellow verses should also impress fans of Iron and Wine and/or Neil Halstead. The group's latest disc is a covers collection called "Thing of the Past" that features new takes on songs by Michael Hurley, Hawkwind, Loudon Wainwright III and Townes VanZandt.
