Alternative Fair Trade Holiday Sale

Lawrence Fair Trade is hosting a Fair Trade Holiday Sale that will feature fairly traded handcrafts, apparel, chocolate, dry goods and much more from artisans in developing regions around the world, as well as gifts handmade by local producers. The sale will run from 9 am to 7 pm on Friday, November 28 and Saturday, November 29, 1 pm to 7 pm on Sunday, November 30, and 11 am to 7 pm Monday, December 1 through Thursday, December 4 at the Ecumenical Christian Ministries, 1204 Oread in Lawrence.Vendors at the sale this year include Equal Exchange, A Greater Gift, Ten Thousand Villages, Women's Bean Project, local businesses Two Hands Worldshop, New Mission Coffee and First Weavers. The market will also feature crafts from Lawrence's sister city El Pappaturro in El Salvador. Donations can be given in a person's name as an alternative gift to other humanitarian organizations.The high quality crafts, textiles and clothing sold at the sale are handmade by artisans from 35 countries around the world, including underprivileged parts of the U.S. Fair trade is an alternative to conventional trade that takes measures to ensure products are produced in safe and healthy working conditions and that artisans have access to healthcare and education and empowering them to support their families and communities with fair wages for their crafts.For more information on the Fair Trade Holiday Market, or to volunteer for the sale, please contact Meredith Walrafen.
