It's been a few years since Aubrey surfaced as one of Lawrence's brightest new bands, and that time appears to have been well-spent developing a sharper and more encompassing sound. Demos for the band's upcoming album "A Room of Our Own" forecast a piano-driven sound reminiscent of Coldplay, with thickly layered vocals sculpted by bandleader Jon Ulasien (the group's sole vocalist following the departure of keyboardist Jamie Netzer).Lawrence songwriter Katlyn Conroy is taking a breather from her band Another Holiday to release a solo album. Taking cues from personal faves like Kimya Dawson, Jenny Lewis and Death Cab for Cutie, Conroy sings sweet, hummable melodies with hushed dynamics and twinkling keyboards. Be/Non is the rocktastic vision of Kansas City songwriter Brodie Rush, a dynamic performer who embraces rock music's icons (Led Zeppelin) as much as its outsiders (Frank Zappa). Driven by the recent additions of guitarist Jeremiah James (Ex-Lovers in Transit) and drummer Ryan Shank (ex-Golden Republic), the new quartet recently put the finishing touches on a proggy new album titled "A Mountain of Yeses."
