James Gunn, renowned science fiction author and KU professor emeritus, will read from his writing. Gunn has penned 28 books, published over 100 stories, and is widely acknowledged as one of the most influential authors, scholars and educators in science fiction. Last year, Gunn was named a Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America. This "Best of James Gunn" reading will feature a number of selections that span his career. Among his novels, "The Listeners," was one of the first books to portray SETI's search for extraterrestrial life, while "The Immortals" became a TV series on ABC. University of Kansas students take note--his 1977 novel, "Kampus," is set at a dystopian college of the future that bears some resemblance (at least geographically) to old KU.
