John Samson formed The Weakerthans in 1998 and began embarking on a completely different direction than the overtly political melodic punk of his former band Propagandhi. Instead, Samson focuses on introspective pop rock with The Weakerthans, touting the virtues of vegetarianism and not selling out to the man. The group recently snapped a four-year hiatus with the release of its "Reunion Tour" LP, a tongue-in-cheek title from a band that never really broke up. The collection includes brassy waltzes, country vignettes and just enough measured melancholy to remind you that the group resides in icy Winnipeg, Canada.
