Event details

Equal parts Zappa, King Crimson, Mahavishnu Orchestra and Roger Miller, Holstein was one of Lawrence's most compelling bands in the late '90s and early '00s. About half the group's tunes are instrumental, sporting sizzling duel-guitar leads and prog-rock zaniness. When the group does sing, it's usually done in jest, covering bizarro topics like Ottawa methhead culture. After five years and two albums of befuddling audiences across the Midwest, the band moved to Boston, seeking more exposure and better seafood. Within a few years the band was drawn and quartered, its limbs pulled off and scattered across the country. Its members (including Jeff Jackson of The Roseline) continued creating music, as well as tiny humans, homes and public policies, often collaborating with each other in all these arenas (except the tiny humans part). A resumption performance will occur this evening in the town that birthed this writhing thing that many, against their better judgment, let crawl into their hearts.
