Event details

The Chicago Afrobeat Project has found a surrogate home of sorts at Lawrence's Jazzhaus, where the band has partied three times a year for the past three years. The dynamic collective is rooted in '70s funk and jazz-infused afrobeat, mixing in other dance-invoking musical motifs such as house, West African percussion, juju and upbeat funk. Dancers (both onstage and off) frequently accompany the group at their 100-plus shows a year, and recent guests include Fareed Haque of Garaj Mahal and Jeff Parker of Tortoise.
