Stick around long enough in a music scene and bands tend to sprout up like blind dates. Paper Cities is a new band from Kansas City, but its five members (Cory White, Trenton Matthews, Billy Johnson, Marty Bush and Zac Laman) are the workhorses behind local sceneboosters like Coalesce, The Esoteric, Reggie and the Full Effect, Theta and Salt the Earth. The band's seasoned three-guitar attack punctuates melodic hardcore that owes a heavy debt to shredders like Refused, Quicksand, Season to Risk and Helmet. Pinpoint musicianship is accompanied by multiple vocalists and a locked-in rhythm section-the sound of a band quickly outgrowing its newbie status.
