Like their British peers Arctic Monkeys and Bloc Party, Klaxons produce supremely fun and dance-happy rock music with crisp beats and pogo-ing basslines. But the trio also owes a heavy debt to the U.K. rave and party-music cultures, covering dance hits like Grace's "Not Over Yet" and even Justin Timberlake's "My Love." With lyrical nods to William Burroughs, Aleister Crowley and Thomas Pynchon, the group cultivates a bookish personality that hardly impedes its ability to dish out exuberantly sweaty live performances. Local bros Ghosty set the stage to hype up a new album due in January on Kansas City's Oxblood Records.
