Event details

from the release:The Lawrence Historical Miniatures Wargaming Club will offer four games that represent different scales, periods and styles of wargaming. We welcome and encourage anyone who wants to play in our games, to ask questions about the game period or about the hobby, or to simply observe what we do. We will also give away a copy of a wargame hobby magazine to each participant while supplies last.Look for us at the Lawrence Public Library on Saturday, November 17from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is a list of the presenters and the games that they will offer:Bernard Harris will conduct a demonstration of naval wargaming during the Napoleonic Wars (1793-1815) using "Master and Commander"rules. Players will maneuver sailing ships into broadside range and command boarding parties in ship-to-ship action during the age of sail. Bernard is an instructor at the Command and General Staff College and has been wargaming since 1980.Stephen Allie is hosting a WWI wargame using "Trench Storm" rules.Players will command the Imperial German army invading Belgium orthe small Belgian forces defending their homeland during the early part of the war. Unlike the static trench warfare that occurred later in the war, this game is an example of the more mobile conflict that occurred in 1914. Gamers will experience the different tactics used by the attacker or defender. Steve is the director of the Frontier Army Museum at Ft. Leavenworth and has been wargaming for 34 years.George Knapp designed the "Lexington and Concord" game he will demonstrate. His approach to wargaming uses miniatures to do a traditional board game. The Patriot commander must attempt toprevent the British from seizing supplies and rebel leaders in the countryside outside Boston in 1775. The British commander will be challenged to fight his way back to Boston once Paul Revere and William Dawes have alerted the local militia. This is a highly playable recreation of the events that sparked the American Revolution. George is an editor for the Department of Joint, Interagency, and Multinational Operations, one of six departments in the Army Command and General Staff College. He retired from theU.S. Army in 1992 and has been working as a civilian in the ArmyCommand and General Staff College since 1996. George started wargaming in 1963.Michael Machell will offer a demonstration of an American Revolutionary War battle. Players will have the opportunity to command regiments of British Regulars, Hessians, Continentals, and Militia. Michael is a Human Resources Director for UnitedHealth Group. He started wargaming when he was ten and became interested in wargaming with miniatures in 1997.
