The Fairer Sex is a five-piece band from Lawrence that crafts catchy pop tunes from simple acoustic guitar-based melodies fleshed out with keys, trumpet, bass and drums. Among the ranks are Ghosty keyboardist Dave Wetzel as well as good ol' boys Zach Hart, Tim Schapker, Ed Epps and Charlie Naramore. Recalling upbeat twee poppers like The Lucksmiths and Belle and Sebastian, the group recently hooked up with Ionik Recordings to release its debut LP "Two Can Win."Opener The Jim Button Band teams singer/songwriter Button with former Kelpie frontman Casey Burge. Like Kelpie, the band cherishes clean guitar sounds, playful pop compositions and off-the-wall melodic detours.
