KU's Music and Dance Department in the School of Fine Arts presents the fifth annual Jazz Vespers concert at the Lied Center of Kansas on Thursday, December 7, 2006, at 7:30 pm.Building on a growing tradition, KU's Jazz Vespers features popular holiday music reinterpreted in the jazz idiom. The audience will enjoy such holiday favorites as "Good King Wenceslas," "Angels We Have Heard On High," "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town," "Jingle Bells," and many more.Soloists will include Vince Gnojek, KU professor of saxophone, Steve Leisring, KU assistant professor of trumpet, and Chuck Berg, KU professor of film studies, all performing with KU Jazz Ensembles I and II, Jazz Combo I and the KU Jazz Singers. The featured pieces include arrangements by Herbie Hancock, Mike Mainieri, Tom Kubis, Take 6, the Brecker Brothers and KU's own Dan Gailey, associate professor of music and director of jazz studies.Tickets are $12.50/general admission and $10/students and senior citizens.
