I was born in Douglas County and raised on a farm in the Vinland area my Parents continues to farm. I attended Baldwin Schools, graduating from Baldwin High School. After high school I attended Garden City Community College on a wrestling scholarship. I graduated with an associate's degree in agriculture.
I returned from college and started to expand the farming operation. The same winter I started working for the Douglas County Sheriff's office. I continued to work for the Sheriff's Office for the next 32 years retiring as a lieutenant in March of 2008. I continue to farm, raising crops and livestock in the Vinland area.
I'm married to Twilla, who works for Hy-vee Foods. We have two children; Megan graduated from Lawrence High and Kansas State University. She lives in Eudora and works for Garmin International. John graduated from Baldwin High School and is a junior at McPherson College, where he is majoring in business. He also plays football for McPherson College.
My family and I are active in the Worden United Methodist Church. For years I have helped with the 4-H programs and the fair. Currently I am vice-president of the Douglas County Livestock Association. I enjoy sports and the outdoors.
