Mark Gilstrap, who was elected to the Kansas Senate in 1996, is a life-long resident of Kansas City, Kansas. He graduated from Rockhurst College in 1975 with a degree in Business Administration.
Prior to serving in the Senate, he was an Assistant City Auditor and then Deputy City Treasurer for Kansas City, Kansas. Currently he is on the staff of the Wyandotte County Unified Government.
Senator Gilstrap is heavily involved in Kansas City community, having served on the board of directors of the YMCA, Wyandotte County Mental Health Board, and "His Children's Home" foster home, among others.
He, his wife JoAnne, and their three children live in Kansas City.
