- On September 26, 2007, the BEA introduced prototype estimates of GDP by metropolitan area. This release provided both current-dollar and real (chained-dollar) GDP estimates for 363 metropolitan areas, 61 detailed industries for each area. All of the prototype estimates are retrievable from this page. You will also find links to the news release and a forthcoming Survey of Current Business article. The prototype estimates are based on county earnings by industry estimates from BEA's local area personal income accounts released April 26, 2007 and on the GDP-by-state estimates released June 7, 2007. County earnings data are not available prior to 2001 on a NAICS basis. Therefore, the reference (or base) year for the real (chained-dollar) estimates is 2001.
