On City approves partial closure of Massachusetts Street for outdoor movie

blindrabbit 4 years, 8 months ago

Good but, why not permanently close off 8th Street between Mass. and New Hampshire to auto traffic, but leaving emergency vehicle access. Would be an ideal location for outdoor events of many kinds. Traffic flow could be modified to 7th and 9th to accommodate this. This location has been used already for several events including KU Relays Shot Put Venue, Sand Bar's Block Party and recently closed for the Busker Events. Why not!

Why not? Because someone might want to buy out and tear down the Tap Room or the Sandbar to put up an apartment building or a hotel and this would mess with their traffic flow.

It would cost quite a bit of money to buy either of those. Nothing fancy about either of them but their grandfathered in liquor only sales makes them rather valuable.

Gumnnuts, I agree, the city would probably have to hand out another parking garage, 20 year tax abatement, and special tax district to make it "economically feasible" to the rich developer who took it on.

Because Goonies is awesome! It will attract the demographic they're aiming at, as well.

Yeah, why "Goonies"? They should show "Carnival of Souls".

Bunch of one-eyed willies need to remove the eye patch and give Goonies a fresh look.

The movie has it all. Friendship. Exploration. Community. Teamwork. Coming of age. Ingenuity. Individual talents/abilities. Parental/family love. Compassion for the disabled. History. Good versus bad. Rich versus poor. A Baby Ruth product placement...

Not very family friendly on a school night. But I love the idea - and Goonies!
