On Do you think Kansas legislators should have supported the Topeka school district's attempt to secure a $40 million federal education grant?

Just when will the spending stop? This must be another name for an "earmark".

Either Kansas gets it or some other state does. The budget was already set for this particular item.

Why should, and when, ever, in the history of self government, has there been no spending?

And just what the heck do you call "farm subsidies"?

Those that spend the least can best afford to spend the most and they intend to keep it that way. Those that spend the most can least afford it.
Nothing like the milk of human kindness runs through Republican veins. Kansas current tax philosophy may attract corporate greed, but not the workers to support the corporations. Working class people cannot afford Kansas tax breaks because the deficit in services is unaffordable.

Can't think of anything better to spend the money on. The grant money is already there waiting for someone to claim it.

Brownback and company want to destroy public schools. They have their for profit groups waiting in the wings. Want your kid to learn that the president is king, and the dynasty started with Reagan? There will be a school for that. Want your kid to learn that any religion other than Christian is evil? There will be a school for that. Want your kid to learn that whites are superior? There will be a school for that. Want your kid to think that babies come from the cabbage patch? There will be a school for that. Want poor kids to learn to accept their poverty as god's plan is to have really poor people who work for really rich people for little money, so the really rich people can get even more money, so just accept your fate and get into the soup line? There will be a school for that. Want your rich kid to not have to do any work to get a high school or college degree, because they don't need to work for a living anyway; they just need credentials? There will be a school for that. Just pony up your money. Oh, no money? Good, they can pay you even less, since you aren't educated. Keep voting for those tea party people.

Bobby Jindal tried to get the voucher program passed in LA and their state Supremes put the kibosh on it. Don't think it will fly in the courts here either.

Well, it won't unless Sam gets his hands on those too.

can brownback appoint himself to the Kansas Supreme Court then resign ? Since power is all that matters to him (certainly not an ethical guy), is this legally even possible ? Marci, or some lawyer -- thoughts ? I see this coming. ps he would have to quit being governor first then get recommened -- see below: Safe for now, I would think........

To be considered as a Justice, one must be between the ages of 30 and 70. One must also be an attorney licensed in Kansas and be active as a lawyer, judge, or teacher of law at an accredited law school for a minimum of ten years. If a person meets these requirements and wants to be considered for the office, one must complete a detailed nomination form summarizing their educational, professional, community, and financial background. The Kansas Supreme Court Nominating Commission reviews the nomination forms and chooses which potential nominees merit an interview.

"make fun of the liberals trying to help you" and we will because Liberals only want to help for control. Liberals know what is best for all, right? We do not have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem.

Your statement that "Liberals only want to help for control" is wildly over-generalized. Starting with over-general and otherwise unhelpful premises, your conclusions are, of course, useless.

Define "liberals" as you are using it in this comment. Or is it such an emotional term that it can't be accurately described?

Governments, including the federal government, are instituted among men (and others, of course), to secure our inalienable rights.

Your hatred for the national government suggests to a reasonable person that you do not wish for citizens to work together through their national government to secure their rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, from whomever might threaten them.

Why would that be the case?

Hahahaha!!! I'm an old RN. I see what you did there :D
As for 2014; after all of the teapublicans that out primaried the moderates this past year and then got elected, don't bet on it. People in Douglas County need to get out a bit more. Kansans on the whole are a lot dumber than you think.

Hadn't seen your commentary in a while. Thought you had gotten out of the hobbit.

We should quit blaming Brownback, we should address concerns to his overlords, Koch bros. Brownback is only dancing to their tune.

Since the grant would support a core function of Kansas government — arguably the most important core function — yes, they should have supported it.

When are you people in Kansas gonna straighten this mess out? Eisenhower is spinning in his grave, and you let the Tea Party Republican Senators knife Kansan Bob Dole right in the back without even a comment. Did you think ole' Bob has sold out to the One World Government United Nations? Your state is really badly ruined by the Koch Brothers' Tea Party. Nobody wants to move there, live there, recreate there, or God forbid go to school there. To most everybody outside the state you're a bunch of illiterate jackasses. Little girls have Tea Parties, ok? How come there was no bitching about "Federal Control" when No Child Left Behind was pushed down by Bush & Cheney? God you people are ignorant and dumb!

I kept hitting the like button but it only let me do it once. Darn it.
