Forgiveness and tolerance. Not just mom, but dad too. Too many times, couples separated without thinking for their children, intend to pursue their lifestyle and interests. I consider that selfish, because if you want your children to be in this world, then, it's your responsibility to give up something in your life for them. Happy Mother's Day! And soon, Happy Father's Day!

Anyone want to place bets on whether one of our resident pro-life nuts come on at some point today?

Lots of traits come to mind—being honest and not “phony” with her children; really listening to them; patience (as just mentioned); giving them the security that concrete expectations for their behavior provide; realizing that they will grow and be gone all too soon and she will have time later to indulge her own whims. If possible at all, providing a father for them is mighty important, as well.
I applaud “non-mothers” today—too—those who have made a conscientious decision that motherhood is not for them, so that there are fewer children brought up in homes where these important mothers' traits are absent. The role of mother is too important, with far-reaching effects, to be taken on thoughtlessly.

Without that, the rest is pretty much moot.
(Which I believe is what Marion's post implied, for those of you who appeared to have missed it.)

I knew someone would think that.
Actually, the blonde part comes more from at different times,I've had brunette, blonde, red, and gray hair.
Men would leap up from their chairs to open the door for me (I mean, from 12 ft away) when my hair was blonde. I got hit on 10 times more when out with friends. The same body, same hair style, just brunette, guys paid less attention, less eagerness.
(Yes, inwardly, I was laughing..or feeling like smacking them)
And they have done studies with children and teacher's. Both friendly, nice, offering the same things..and the children preferred the blonde teachers by a very great ratio.

I give…
Putting up with every pet the child desires. (Okay, so I didn't get a horse. But I did have 51 gerbils, and mice, turtles, crayfish, etc.)
Art supplies to the 10th degree..meaning asbestos heat plates and torches for jewelry in the house! Oils, etc.
Letting the child have a piano, organ, electric piano, and many other musical instruments, taking up 1/3 of the family room.
Getting the girl engineering and architectural toys, when girls didn't play with those.
Southern cooking.
Sewing on Girl Scout badges “flawlessly”.
Banana Meringue with nilla wafers. Boiled peanuts.
Unlimited supply of peanut butter cookies.
The kind that considers “baby's first food” to be homemade mashed potatos.
The kind of mother that throws their daughter out of the family when she ends up pregnant, but then later helps care for her adorable little grandaughter.
(Well..some mothers need to think before they banish their children)
