Isn't this a private matter between the church and the abused. If one side wants to go public they can, but if both sides want to keep it private, shouldn't it be?
I'm not sure the public has the right to act as inquisitor and demand information about whether someone's been abused and to find out who, when and how it was done.

Then why do we have laws to identify and locate sex offenders. Shouldn't sex offender priests be on those locator websites?

Oh, I don't know---maybe because sexually abusing children is illegal---as in against the law.
And anybody doing it needs to be stopped from doing it to others.

Hello! Raping 7 yr olds like OliverO'Grady did is a CRIME, Horace. That means it IS the authorities business. Crimes are crimes and I support our legal system's right to enforce when criminal activity is ANYWHERE in these United States.

I am very happy about the article of all the investigative work of Shawn Hittle and Nick Krug of the LJWorld Newspaper. It used to be hard to believe that our beloved Catholic Church would ever put our sons and daughters in harm's way by their priests who were sent to serve them. And most of those priests who are responsible for abusing our children and adults have been sheltered by their Bishops who moved them from parish to parish once the news was out that they had abused a parishioner. In Kansas, it doesn't seem that the Bishops understand that continuing to keep these abusers names secret is not helping the Church and it continues to deeply wound the abused. Once the Bishops see the error of their thinking and come clean with all the names then and only then can true healing take place in our Church and in the victims/survivors who are waiting for their shepherd's to be True Shepherds.

Not forgiving the Catholic church, but I agree with Fr. Schmeidler's remarks that this goes deeper than just the Catholic church. For some, celibacy is a natural and normal calling, but for most, it's a denial of one of the most human traits and an abomination against nature. For years, Christian and Muslim institutions taught that sex was something filthy, something that should be seen as a duty that one performed only for the purpose of procreation. When I grew up, even the word "sex" was considered dirty. It was something you never talked about, and something you did in the dark. It's these societal disorders that has driven celibacy into the Catholic church and keeps it there. It's these same societal disorders that drives the porn industry. Taught from childhood that sex is dirty, we see seek it in that light. Society is slowly changing, but until we can fully embrace our sexuality in the light, it will drive us to seek it in the dark.

How can you call abuse when 80% of the other congregation and some victims are committing Prostitution and hetersexual pediphilla the masses are partial to some abuses especially S N A P...some findings have found so called abuse victims practicing heteral sexual pediphilla At 14-16 years old..
