Look, if they want to teach a religion class, make it an elective leave it up to the students to take it or leave it. But let a science class be a science class and keep religion out of it! Why is that so hard for people to figure out? I suppose that the creationist would want a religion course to be a core course that has to be taken for graduation, but then you would be breaking federal laws of separation of religion in public schools. That is what is going on, religion trying to find loopholes for federal laws and the constitution.
They (the church) can't stand it when they can't dictate and control people's lives. Religion just can't figure out why 75% of the people are turning away from the churches. Common sense people!

Science defeated magic 500+ years ago. This is just politics.

Science is defined by the test. Unique to science is the experiment and the veracity of any scientific statement is measured by the quantity and quality of the experimentation. Teach in high school that evolution explains viral mutation, moth wing color changes and fruit fly modification. Teach in high school that grand naratives about origins of mankind are beyond science because they are untestable. Pontificating about how all this got here is not science for the evolutionist who tries to be bigger than his britches....or the creationist who tries to explain the world without hope of experimentation.
Teach students to be honest, diligent and thorough members of the scientific community. Teach them to value experiments.
