Ed and Judy Bond, Lawrence, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by flying in their families from Kansas and Ohio to spend the week of Christmas with them in Lake Havasu City, Ariz.
Ed Bond and Judy Bookwalter were married Jan. 27, 1962, in Miami, Okla.
Ed graduated from high school in Emporia. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy for six years. He attended IBEW Local Union 226 apprenticeship and worked for electrical contractors in Lawrence and Topeka. He was the assistant business manager with L.U. 226. He opened Bond Electric in 1977 and retired in 1995. He is still a member of IBEW L.U. 226 and has been for 49 years.
Judy graduated from Lawrence High School and is a homemaker. She worked in the office at Bond Electric. She was a Cub Scout leader, a member of the Lawrence Quilters Guild, and bowled in a league for many years.
After retirement, they bought a house in Lake Havasu City, where they spend their winters.
They have two sons, Scott L. and wife Lisa, Perry, and Brett L. and wife Edith, Baldwin City; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Trepinski and Hibbert

The future bride is a graduate of Free State High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in communication with an emphasis in public relations, and a minor in music with an emphasis in vocal performance, from the University of Tennessee. She has been employed by Carnival Cruise Lines as a dancer for the past six years.
The future groom earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Western England. He has been employed by Carnival Cruise Lines as a shore excursions manager for the past nine years.
The couple plan a Sept. 8, 2012, wedding at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence.
Van Auken and Lock
Joe Van Auken and Sheri Van Auken announce the engagement of their daughter, Christina Sloan Van Auken, to Joshua Herbert Lock, all of Lawrence.
The future bride is a 2003 graduate of Free State High School. She earned a doctorate of pharmacy degree from Kansas University in 2010 and is a pharmacist with Kroger.
The future groom is the son of Jim and Maggie Lock, Lawrence. He is a 2000 graduate of Lawrence High School. He is pursuing a doctorate of pharmacy degree from KU, will graduate in 2015, and is a pharmacy intern with Kroger.
The couple plan an August 2012 wedding at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence.
Peterson and McCandless
Tiffany Peterson and Jason McCandless, both of Lawrence, were married July 23, 2011, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lawrence, with the Rev. Randy Weinkauf officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Chuck and Margaret Peterson, Lawrence.
The groom is the son of Pat and Debra McCandless, Lawrence.
Maid of honor was Jenna Rader. Best man was Justin McCandless. Bridesmaids were Laura Koger, Ashley Hanson, Rachel Kelly, Jennifer McCandless and Lauren Kelly. Groomsmen were Ryan Waggoner, Michael Harris, David Dunn, Brien Marti and Bryant Peterson. The bride is a 2005 graduate of Free State High School. She earned a secondary education degree with an emphasis in mathematics from Kansas State University in May 2009. She is a sixth-grade math teacher at Eudora Middle School.
The groom is a 2006 graduate of Free State. He earned a bachelor’s degree in May 2010 and a master’s degree in May 2011, both in accounting and from Kansas University. He is employed in the audit department at BKD, LLP in Kansas City, Mo.
The couple reside in Shawnee.
Shmalberg and Kauffman
Jamie Shmalberg, Lawrence, and Paul Kauffman, Amarillo, Texas, were married July 2, 2011, at the Longview Mansion in Lee’s Summit, Mo., with the Rev. Kent Winters-Hazelton officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Scott and Deb Shmalberg, Lawrence.
The groom is the son of Bryan and Tara Kauffman, Amarillo.
Maid of honor was Lacee Nolan. Best man was Mike Nolan. Bridesmaids were Ashley Shmalberg, Maegan Torres, Clare Bullock, Laura Anderson and Sarah Kauffman. Groomsmen were Thomas Shmalberg, Kurt Stansbury, Matt Conway, Steve Townsend and Colby Bullock. Flower girls were Carly Bullock and Harlow Hooper.

The groom is a 2005 graduate of Amarillo High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from K-State in December 2009 and is employed with UMB Bank in Kansas City, Kan.
The couple reside in Overland Park.
