George and Arloene Simmons, Lecompton, will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary.
George Simmons and Arloene DeKat were married Jan. 24, 1942, in Kansas City, Kan.
Both graduated from Lecompton Rural High School and are life members of the Lecompton Historical Society. George retired from Goodyear in 1978. Arloene is a homemaker.
They have two daughters, Georgia Trammel and husband Johnny, Lecompton, and Rita Mock and husband Rob, Fulton, Mo.; six grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. A son, Stanley, died Aug. 15, 1972.

Gorden and Wade
Gary and Mary Gorden, Perry, along with Kevin Wade and Lori Burton, both of Grantville, announce the engagement of their children, Annie Gorden and Tyler Wade, both of Perry.
The future bride is a graduate of Perry-Lecompton High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education at Washburn University and is a fourth-grade teacher at Williams Science and Fine Arts Magnet School in Topeka.
The future groom is also a graduate of PLHS. He earned a fire science degree from Butler County Community College and is a firefighter/EMT-I with the city of Lawrence.
The couple plan a June 23, 2012, wedding at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Perry.
Hoisington and Matthews
Thomas and Susan Hoisington, Lawrence, announce the engagement of their daughter, Jana Hoisington, Denver, to Greg Matthews, Boulder, Colo.
The future bride is a 1996 graduate of Lawrence High School, a 2000 graduate of Taylor University in Upland, Ind., and earned a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Denver Seminary in December 2011.
The future groom is the son of Matt Matthews and Diana Matthews, both of Lawrence. He is a 1988 graduate of Lawrence High School, a 1993 graduate of Kansas State University, and earned a master’s certificate in geographic informations systems from the University of Colorado at Denver. He is employed with the United States Geological Survey on the National Map.
The couple plan a March 31, 2012, wedding in Lawrence.
Rieman and Etzel
Alix Rieman and Matt Etzel, both of Lawrence, announce their engagement.
The future bride is the daughter of Doug Rieman, Lawrence, and Wendy Bonjour, Topeka. She is a 2006 graduate of Washburn Rural High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in art history from Kansas University in December 2011.
The future groom is the son of Bob Etzel, Lawrence, and Karen Etzel, Topeka. He is a 2005 graduate of Hayden High School, earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from KU in May 2010, and is an associate auditor for Legislative Post Audit in Topeka.
A September 2012 wedding is planned.
