Megan and Brandon Hash
Megan Barfield, Lawrence, and Brandon Hash, Baldwin City, were married June 18, 2011, at Eudora Baptist Church, with Mark Halford officiating.
The bride is the daughter of David and Cathy Barfield, Lawrence.
The groom is the son of Martin and Kay Hash, Lawrence.
Maid of honor was Danielle Engle. Best man was Jake Hash. Bridesmaids were Amy Hilger, Betsy Pool, Megan Klicka, Shaina Williams and Angel Vann. Groomsmen were Cody Patterson, Branden Souders, Blake McClary, Chris Jones and Michael Bell. Flower girls were Maya Barfield and Annika Schoenhofer. Junior usher was Emma Barfield. Ringbearer was Jonas Barfield. A reception was given at Stony Point Hall in Baldwin City.
The bride was homeschooled and graduated in 2007. She plans to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in music and mass media from Washburn University in Spring 2012 and is the news editor for the Washburn Review newspaper.
The groom was also homeschooled and graduated in 2007. He has been working in the energy industry for over five years. The couple reside in Edgerton.

Adam Rankin and Beth Newton
Beth Newton and Adam Rankin, both of Lawrence, announce their engagement.
The future bride is the daughter of Rick Newton and Julie Hoffman, both of Hutchinson. She is a 2003 graduate of Nickerson High School and a 2005 graduate of Hutchinson Community College. She is studying for a bachelor’s degree in elementary education at Kansas University and plans to graduate in May 2012.
The future groom is the son of Frank and Sherri Rankin, Hutchinson. He is a 2004 graduate of Hutchinson High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from KU in 2008 and is a design engineer at Engineered Air in De Soto.
The couple plan a Nov. 5, 2011, wedding at Danforth Chapel at KU.

Norma and Don Baxter
Don and Norma Baxter, Lawrence, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary today with a family gathering.
Norma Rose Barton and Donald Gene Baxter were married Sept., 2, 1951, at the Burlington Methodist Church in Burlington.
They lived in Florrisant, Colo., and Colorado Springs, Colo. before moving to Germany, where Don served after being drafted by the U.S. Army. In 1957, they moved to Lawrence. They opened Don’s Speed Shop in 1962. They eventually sold the shop and opened Baxter Ford Parts. They both enjoyed drag racing and have raced several dragsters including the “Jayhawker.” Their son Tim drove and their son Bob was crew chief. It has competed in National Hot Rod Association events across the country. The couple still enjoy their summer home near Woodland Park, Colo., with their family.
In addition to their sons, they have a daughter, Kristine Baxter Wilson, all of Lawrence; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The couple request no gifts.

Harold and Carol LeMert
Carol Ann and Harold W. LeMert Jr., Lawrence, celebrated their 50th anniversary wedding in early August with their family in Santa Barbara, Calif.
The couple were married Aug. 27, 1961, in Shelbyville, Ind.
Hal is a retired Presbyterian minister. He is currently active in campus ministry at Ecumenical Christian Ministries. Annie is retired from a long nursing career serving in many capacities (school nurse, instructor and manager) and her last job with early childhood special needs. They enjoy being involved with Plymouth Congregational Church, the Lawrence community and keeping up with their grandchildren.
They have three daughters, Elizabeth Bax, Jefferson City, Mo., Jennifer LeMert, and son-in-law, Dan Beightol, Santa Barbara, Calif., and Amy LeMert-Nuzum and son-in-law, Gary Nuzum, Lawrence; a son, Paul, Malvern, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The couple request no gifts.

Bill and Terry Platz
Terry and Bill Platz, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a weekend with their children and grandchildren later this month.
The couple were married Sept. 2, 1961, in Lincoln, Neb. Bill is retired from Farmland Industries and Terry is a Realtor at Stephens Real Estate.
They have a daughter, Shelly Platz-Davidson, and son-in-law, Chris, Lawrence; three sons, Doug, Dallas, Jon, and daughter-in-law, Stacey, Lenexa, and Jeff, Lawrence; and three grandchildren.

Sharon and Duane Patton
Duane and Sharon Patton, Lawrence, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary while on a RV trip this summer.
The couple were married Sept. 2, 1961, at the First Baptist Church in Scott City. Duane worked for the Lawrence Country Club, The Scotts Company and the Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of America. Sharon worked at Pioneer Bank, University State Bank and also for Duane. In retirement, they enjoy spending their summers in their 5th wheel RV and have traveled to Alaska, Nova Scotia and throughout the United States.
They have a son, Scott, and daughter-in-law, Stacey, and a granddaughter.
