Lynn and Susan Metzger announce the engagement of their daughter, Emily Metzger, to David Peterson, all of Lawrence.
The future bride is a graduate of Free State High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts with an emphasis in visual communication from Kansas University, is also a graduate of Z Hair Academy of Lawrence, and is a hair stylist at Salon 708 in Lawrence.
The future groom is the son of Ronald and Barb Peterson, Ames, Iowa. He is a graduate of Ames High School, earned a bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in environmental studies from KU, and is employed by Foley Equipment Co. in Topeka.
The couple plan a May 5, 2012, wedding at Alvamar Country Club.

Terry and Lesa Tidd announce the engagement of their daughter, Heather Tidd, all of Lawrence, to Jacob Berthelsen, Olathe.
The future bride is a 2007 graduate of Lawrence High School. She will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Kansas State University this December.
The future groom is the son of Joe and Jodi Berthelsen, Olathe. He is a 2007 graduate of Olathe Northwest High School. He will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from K-State in May 2012 and is employed as a web design student specialist for the Kansas State University Libraries.
The couple plan a Jan. 7, 2012, wedding at Lawrence Free Methodist Church.

Sam and Teri Smith along with Ron and Pam Thomas, all of Lawrence, announce the engagement of their children, Erika Guenther and Jace Thomas, both of McKinney, Texas.
The future bride is also the daughter of the late Randy Guenther. She graduated from Lawrence High School in 2005, earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Washburn University in 2009 and is a registered nurse at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.
The future groom graduated from Free State High School in 2005, also earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Washburn in 2009 and is also a registered nurse at Baylor University Medical Center.
The couple plan a Dec. 21, 2011 wedding in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

Christine Brady and Neal Julian, both of Independence, were married Sept. 9, 2011, at Watson Park in Lawrence, with Rabbi Darren Brady officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Darren and Windy Brady, Independence.
The groom is the son of Mark and Mary Jo Julian, Independence.
Maids of honor were Cassandra Brady and Cari Brady. Best man was Danny Julian. Bridesmaid was Leah Tucker. Groomsmen were Steven Whitson and Bobby Blaker.
A reception was given at Abe & Jake’s.
The bride is a graduate of Beit Midrash School, Independence Community College and The Illinois Institute of Art. She is the interior designer at Winfield House in Lawrence.
The groom is a graduate of Independence High School, Independence Community College and Kansas University. He is a freelance artist.
The couple reside in Lawrence.

Alicia Nicole White, Lawrence, and David Aaron Kistner, Overland Park, were married Oct. 29, 2011, at Friends Evangelical Church in Lawrence, with the Rev. Cloyce Thornton officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Leslie and Michelle French, Lawrence.
The groom is the son of Jeff Kistner and Peggy Kistner, both of Overland Park.
Maid of honor was Katie Stanley. Best man was Jacob Gillihan.
A reception was given in Lawrence.
The bride is employed in Lawrence and the groom is in employed in Gardner.
The couple reside in Lawrence.

Jennifer Renema, Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich., and Christopher Kiefer, Oak Park, Ill., were married Sept. 10, 2011, at St. James Lutheran Church in Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich., with the Revs. Gerald Spice and Patrick Shebeck officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Michael and Linda Renema, Grosse Pointe Woods.
The groom is the son of James Kiefer, Forest Park, Ill., and Dinah Nagy, Oak Park.
Maid of honor was Sarah Renema. Best man was Nelson Sousa. Bridesmaids were Mary Sousa and Kirsten Fryer. Groomsmen were Christopher Renema and Mike Renema. Lectors were Katherine Evans and Mary Van de Putte. Musician was Kurt Heyer. Cantor was Kelly Ritter.
A reception was given at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center.
The bride is a 2001 graduate of Grosse Pointe North High School in Grosse Pointe Woods. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Kalamazoo (Mich.) College in 2005 and a Master of Divinity degree from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago in 2009. She serves as the associate pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence.
The groom is a 2001 graduate of Oak Park River Forest High School. He currently attends Johnson County Community College and is an asset protection specialist at Target.
The couple reside in Lawrence.

Anniversary

Quick

Ed and Colleen Quick

Ed and Colleen Quick, Lawrence, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August with their children in San Francisco.
Colleen Mathews and H. Edward Quick Jr. were married by their friend and Ottawa University professor, H. William Myers, on Aug. 19, 1961, at Oberlin Federated Church. Myers was assisted during the service by the Rev. Charles Scott.
The couple met and graduated from Ottawa University. Ed earned a master’s degree in philosophy from Washington University in St. Louis. Colleen worked in the departments of pharmacology and psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine. In 1969, they moved to Washington, D.C., where Ed spent the next 30 years working at the U.S. Senate. Colleen worked for almost 20 years as a medical editor for The Surgeon General of the U.S. Army. She also worked as a volunteer at the National Zoo and at the Smithsonian Institution. In 2005, they retired and moved to Lawrence, where the couple have kept busy with volunteer and university work.
They have a son, Steve Quick, and daughter-in-law, Glenda, and fraternal twins Andy Quick and Vanessa Quick. The couple were preceded in death by their 12-year-old son, Teddy, in 1979.
