Ann Schanbacher and Colin Hamel
Ann Schanbacher and Colin Hamel, both of Oakhurst, Calif., announce their engagement.
The future bride is the daughter of Mark and Barbara Schanbacher, Kearney, Neb. She is a 2003 graduate of Kearney High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in theater from Hillsdale College in Michigan in 2007. She is an EMT and instructor at Calvin Crest Outdoor School and Summit Adventure in California.
The future groom is the son of Richard and Nancy Hamel, Lawrence. He is a 2003 graduate of Lawrence High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in time-based media from Columbus College of Art and Design in 2007. He is a wilderness first responder, an instructor at Calvin Crest Outdoor School and Summit Adventure, and creates videos for various organizations and events.
The couple plan a March 27, 2010, wedding at Bass Lake, Calif.

Brian Bishop and Autumn Jones
Paxton and Janie Jones, Topeka, along with Dennis and Kathy Bishop, Olathe, announce the engagement of their children, Autumn Jones and Brian Bishop, both of Lawrence.
The future bride is a 1995 graduate of Salina South High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in strategic communications from Kansas University in 2003 and is a supervisor for the clerk of the Douglas County District Court.
The future groom is a 1994 graduate of Shawnee Mission South High School. He attended KU and is employed by the Free State Brewing Company.
The couple plan an April 24, 2010, wedding at Danforth Chapel at KU.

Don and Barbara Ross
Don and Barbara Ross, Fairview, Okla., formerly of Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Feb. 7 with a small family dinner.
Don E. Ross and Barbara May were married Feb. 7, 1960, at Central Christian Church in Fairview.
Through the years, the couple have lived in Fairview, Wakita and Straight, Okla., and Lawrence. After Don’s retirement, they returned to Fairview. Don retired as a corrosion technician with Williams Natural Gas after 30 years. He teaches a stained glass class at Northwest Technology Center in Fairview and enjoys golfing and playing pool. Barbara was a bookkeeper for many years and is a homemaker and treasurer at the Major County Senior Citizens Center.
They have two daughters, Robin, Guthrie, Okla., and Kimberly, Oklahoma City; and three granddaughters, Kayla, Kathryn and Laura.

Jim and Janet Craig, Baldwin City, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open reception from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Masonic Hall in Baldwin City. Hosts will be their children, Joni Craig, San Diego, Jami Craig, Olathe, and Jana Craig-Hare and husband Sean, Baldwin City.
They were married Feb. 14, 1960, at the United Methodist Church in Neosho Falls.
The couple met in Topeka when she was attending Stormont-Vail Nursing School and he was attending Washburn University and working for Capitol Ambulance Co.
He retired from the U.S. Geological Survey in 1994. She retired from Orchard Lane Nursing facility in 1992.
The couple request no gifts.

Becky Burns, Topeka, and Mike Pisani, Lawrence, were married Sept. 19, 2009, at Sixth Avenue Ballroom in Topeka, with the Rev. Dennis Creech officiating.
The bride is the daughter of David and Teresa Burns, Topeka.
The groom is the son of George Pisani and Pat Pisani, both of Lawrence.
Maid of honor was Stacy Ruth. Best man was Rod Hoffer. Bridesmaids were Sarah Vernier, April Young, Nikki Noe, Mariah Ruth and Taylor Moldenhauer. Groomsmen were Dave Byrd-Stadler and Steven Pisani. Flower girls were Avery Jones and Alison Fountain. Ringbearer was Zachary Ruth. Ushers were Joe Ruth and Kyle Fecteau. Readers were Eric Fecteau and Daniel Fecteau. Harpist was Misty Dawn Warren.
A reception followed at Sixth Avenue Ballroom.
The bride is a 2003 graduate of Washburn Rural High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in applied behavioral science from Kansas University in 2008 and is employed at Hilltop Child Development Center.
The groom is a 1990 graduate of Lawrence High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from KU in 1995 and is also employed at Hilltop Child Development Center.
The couple reside in Lawrence.

The future groom is a 2005 graduate of Lawrence High and will earn a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Emporia State in May.
