Hemenway and Ballard


Arna Bontemps Hemenway and Marissa Elyse Ballard, both of Lawrence, announce their engagement.
The future bride is the daughter of Julie and Gary Squires, Lawrence, and Stewart Woodland, Dana Point, Calif. She is a 2006 graduate of Lawrence High School and will receive her bachelor’s degree in family and consumer sciences education from Pittsburg State University in May.
The future groom is the son of Robert and Leah Hemenway, Lawrence. He is a 2005 graduate of Lawrence High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in English in 2009 from the University of Iowa. He will pursue his Master of Fine Arts in fiction writing in the fall of 2010.
The couple plan a July 10, 2010, wedding in the Kansas Union Ballroom at Kansas University.

Jennifer Elaine Ritschard, Gresham, Ore., and Justin Michael Berry, Lawrence, announce their engagement.
The future bride is the daughter of Brad Ritschard, Portland, Ore., and Carolyn Ritschard, Corvallis, Ore. She is a graduate of Centennial High School in Gresham, Ore., and Mt. Hood Community College and is employed as a police officer in the Portland metro area.
The future groom is the son of Mo Berry, Colby, and Pamela McClain, Lawrence. He is a graduate of Lawrence High School and Portland Community College and also is employed as a police officer in the Portland metro area.
The couple plan a June 20, 2010, wedding in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

Holden-Pewenofkit


Christine Holden and Jay Pewenofkit, both of Eudora, were married Oct. 3, 2009, at the Lawrence Knights of Columbus hall with the Rev. Val Howland officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Debra Pahdocony, Shawnee, Okla., and Tim and Pam Holden, Lawrence. The groom is the son of Lavern Tieyah, Shawnee, Okla., and the late Amos Pewenofkit.
The bride was escorted by her grandfather, William Pahdocony.
Maid of honor was Jody Jahn. Bridesmaids were Rachel Patneaude, Twylla Jimboy, Tamara Holden and Paula Sloan.
Best man was Brock Robson. Groomsmen were Kyle Holden, Steadman Brown, Jay Narcomie and Brett Pittenger.
Ushers were Chase Gudenkauf and Sean Pringe.
A reception took place at the Knights of Columbus. Music was provided by Bob Lemmons, DJ.
Jay is employed by Haskell Indian Nations University, and Christine works for Boston Financial in Lawrence.
The couple will take their honeymoon at a later date and are making their home in Eudora.

Anniversary

Donald and D. Jean Ogden, Lawrence, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a trip to Niagara Falls last June and plan a private family reception in the spring.
Donald F. Ogden and Dolores “Jean” Sparks were married Dec. 27, 1959, at the Church of God in Pratt.
Don graduated from Preston (Kan.) High School and worked at the Pratt Tribune newspaper from 1954 to 1962, when he came to work as a printer at the Lawrence Journal-World. He retired from the Journal-World in May 2007 after 45 years with the company. Jean graduated from Pratt High School in 1960 and took classes at Kansas University. She also worked at Hallmark Cards from 1963 to 1966.
Don was active as a lay minister for many years before he and Jean were ordained and licensed in 1986 through the International Minister Forum, a worldwide missionary outreach. The last 14 years, Don has ministered at Bethel Fellowship in Cleveland, Mo., and officiated at services at a local funeral home. Jean has been active in the ministry with her husband as well as being a caregiver for family members.
The couple have two sons, Derk L. Ogden of Lawrence and D. Christopher Ogden of Colorado Springs, Colo., four grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The couple request no gifts.

Mark and Alea Lafond, Lawrence, announce the engagement of their daughter, Ashley, to Shawn Brackbill, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.
The future bride is a 2000 graduate of Free State High School and received a bachelor’s degree in theater from Kansas University. She is working in music publishing at Domino Publishing in New York, N.Y.
The future groom is the son of J. Richard and Linda Brackbill, Denver, Pa. He is a 1993 graduate of Altoona Area High School in Altoona, Pa., and received a bachelor’s degree in film studies from the University of Pittsburgh in 1998. He is a portrait, music and fashion photographer in New York, N.Y.
The couple plan a June 12, 2010, wedding at the Evan Williams House in Lawrence.
