Caitlin is studying psychology and premedicine at Bethel College in North Newton. She is working at an internship doing biomedical research this summer at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City.
Aaron is pursuing a degree in music education at Bethel College. He is working at an internship in the education department at the New York Philharmonic.

John and Ruth Hughes, Lawrence, are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.
John Irby Hughes and Ruth Roney were married June 5, 1957, in Lawrence.
They both grew up in Lawrence and graduated from Kansas University. John worked at Hallmark Cards Inc. for 37 years. He is a board member and past president of the Leavenworth Credit Union. He also served in various capacities at First Presbyterian Church.
Ruthie worked for H&R Block and was owner and manager of Holiday Travel Agency. She now works at Travellers Inc.
Their children are Erin Mayer, Lawrence; Jennifer McGonigle, Leawood; and Megan Richardson, Lawrence. They have 10 grandchildren.

Ellis and Mary Hayden, Lawrence, will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on June 10 at a family gathering.
Ellis Ralph Hayden and Mary Louise Buerman were married June 5, 1942, in Ottawa.
They are graduates of Liberty Memorial High School. Ellis served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. He was a baker for 17 years at Rusty's Bakery. The couple also built houses and later owned and operated coin shops.
Their children are Stanley Hayden and wife Linda; Karen Fraser; and the late Linda Butell. They have five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Richard C. and Madge Fraley, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on June 9.
Richard Fraley and Madge Salisbury were married June 9, 1957, at the United Methodist Church in St. Marys. They have lived in Lawrence since 1995.
Richard graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1950 and Kansas State University in 1954. He worked for 20 years at various radio stations in Kansas, including KFH in Wichita, KVOE in Emporia, and KWBW and KWHK in Hutchinson. He was executive director of the Dodge City Area Chamber of Commerce for 12 years. He attended St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, Mo., and was ordained a United Methodist minister in 1994. He served as pastor of Healy United Methodist Church from 1987 until 1995, when he retired.
Madge graduated from St. Marys High School in 1954. She attended Baker University and Emporia State University, and worked as a secretary in Dodge City and Lawrence. She is a member of the United Methodist Women.
Their children are Linda Martin, Nancy Childers and James Fraley and their families, all of Lawrence. They have five grandchildren.

Ralph and Maxine Handley, Fenton, Mich., are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with a gathering for family and friends today at their home. They also traveled to Florence, Italy, in May.
Ralph Handley and Maxine Mills were married June 2, 1957, in Tonganoxie.
Ralph served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. He worked in labor relations for GM-Delphi for 44 years and retired in 2004. He is a consultant for an independent company.
Maxine grew up in Tonganoxie and graduated from Tonganoxie High School. She was a real estate agent for 20 years and retired in 2001.
Their children are Joyce Henk and husband Michael, Fenton, Mich.; and Steve Handley, Rochester, Ind. They have three granddaughters and three stepgrandsons.
Carl and Joyce Burkhead, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a program and reception for friends and family from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. July 1 at the Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship in Lawrence.
Carl Edward Burkhead and Nancy Joyce Pollard were married June 2, 1957, at Belmont Christian Church in Kansas City, Mo.
Carl graduated from the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy in Rolla. They moved to Lawrence in 1962 when Carl began graduate work in environmental engineering at Kansas University. After he completed his master's degree and doctorate, the couple moved to Lexington, Ky., where Carl taught at the University of Kentucky. They returned to Lawrence in 1969, and Carl taught in the department of civil engineering at KU. He received a research Fulbright to Israel in 1987 and a teaching Fulbright to Portugal in 1994. He retired in 2003.
Since retirement, Carl has traveled to Guatemala, Mongolia and Africa on mission trips. He is the academic dean of Advancing the Kingdom Bible Colleges in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
Joyce is a homemaker. She has worked at Cross Reference Christian Bookstore, Christian Book and Gift, Little Women-Little Men, Weaver's and J.C. Penney.
Their children are Jeff Burkhead, Burlington; and Carla Wilson and husband Tim, Lingle, Wyo. They have seven grandchildren, a grandson-in-law and two great-grandsons.

Richard graduated from Eudora High School and attended Lawrence Business College. He was employed by the Douglas County Treasurer's Office and by the contractor at Sunflower Ordnance Works.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 and was discharged in 1946 as a staff sergeant. He worked at the Lawrence Airport and Charlton Insurance Agency. He also was employed in the comptroller's office at Kansas University and retired in 1984 as assistant comptroller for payroll and staff benefits.
Eva graduated from Belfast High School in New York. She worked for relatives in the Buffalo area and moved to Lawrence in 1952. She worked for J.C. Penney Co., Parsons & Kring Floor Covering and Marks Jewelers.
In retirement, they have hosted students from 14 countries in the Lawrence Host Family Program, now the Lawrence Friendship Family Program, and have visited many of their former host students.
