Nathan and Erin Rhoads

Erin Nicole Joler, Topeka, and Nathan Wilkinson Rhoads, Portales, N.M., were married April 23, 2005, at the SpringHill Suites by Marriott atrium in Lawrence with Rick Clock officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Jeff and Shana Joler, Lawrence. The groom is the son of Mark and Mary Rhoads, Lawrence.

Maid of honor was Trinae Joler. James Sullivan was best man. Ting Shih and Helen White were bridesmaids. Groomsmen were Mark Rhoads and Scott Criqui. Guest book attendants were James Edmonds and Meagan Rhoads.

A reception was given in the SpringHill Suites by Marriott Naismith Ball Room.

The bride is a 1999 Free State High School graduate. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology in 2003 from Kansas University. She is working for the city of Lincoln, Neb., at a summer day camp. She plans to attend graduate school at the University of Nebraska Lincoln this fall.

The groom graduated in 1999 from Flour Bluff High School, Corpus Christi, Texas. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and Slavic literature and language in 2003 from KU. He is employed by the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft maintenance officer in Clovis, N.M. He attends Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University where he is working on a master's degree.

Daniel Johnson and Nicole Alonge

Nicole Marie Alonge, Lawrence, and Daniel Ray Johnson, Oskaloosa, announce their engagement.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Nicholas J. Alonge, Independence, Mo., and Sandy Henley, Lawrence. She is a Lawrence High School graduate. Nicole graduated from American Hair Academy in Topeka. She is employed at ProCuts in Lawrence.

The future groom is the son of Harold Johnson, Oskaloosa, and Beverly Tague, Oskaloosa. He received his General Educational Development diploma. He is a certified welder.

The couple plan a July 30 wedding in Valley Falls.

Anniversary

Leta and Wilbur White

Wilbur and Leta White, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception for friends and family from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 6 at Grace Presbyterian Church in Lawrence. The couple also marked the occasion by taking a trip with their family to Disney World and a cruise aboard a Disney World ship to the Caribbean.

Wilbur White and Leta Davenport were married Aug. 6, 1955, at First Baptist Church in El Dorado.

Wilbur graduated from Kansas University with a degree in chemical engineering in 1959. He worked for FMC Corp. for 40 years. He was transferred to New York, California and Philadelphia during the years.

Leta graduated from the University of Wichita in speech and hearing pathology. She received a master's degree from the University of California - San Jose. She worked 23 years in speech. She bought and worked at The Banks Company in the early 1980s. She then became a real estate saleswoman for McGrew Real Estate for about 16 years.

Their children are Beth Ott, Lawrence; and David and Brenda White, Colorado Springs, Colo. They also have four grandchildren.

Clara and Darl Stevens

Darl and Clara Stevens, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a dinner and reception Friday at their home.

Darl Stevens and Clara Robb were married Aug. 5, 1955, in Kingman, Ariz.

Darl has retired from the Nevada Test Site. Clara is a homemaker.

Their children are Michael and Rosemary Stevens, Las Vegas; Jeff and Ronda Stevens, Las Vegas; and Kathy Rosencrants, Lawrence.

They also have four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Earl and Lila Swanner

Earl W. "Bill" and Lila Swanner, Lawrence, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Thursday.

Lila Baysinger and Bill Swanner were married July 28, 1945, in Hutchinson.

The couple farmed in Hartford before Bill began working in construction for Intrusion Prepakt and Lee Turzillo Const. Co. in Cleveland, Ohio. Bill also worked as a welder at Sauder Tank Co. and Lyon County Roads, both in Emporia. He retired from Berkel and Co., Bonner Springs.

Lila worked for Montgomery Ward, Hallmark Cards and Quaker Oats, Emporia, and Lee Turzillo Construction Co. in Cleveland, Ohio. The couple owned and operated the Independent Laundry and Dry Cleaners in Lawrence for several years.

Their daughters are Laurita Hardesty, Oskaloosa; Marla Jo Pleuss, Lee's Summit, Mo.; and Janet Klienow, Edwardsville. They have five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The bride is the daughter of Rex and Jan Tedrow, Lenexa, and Shirley and Mike Bove, Ottawa. The groom is the son of Chris and Jackie Wallace, Lawrence, and Pam Wallace, Lawrence.

Maid of honor was Kristen Tedrow. Best man was Lance Hoover. Bridesmaids were Lynelle Grimes, Amy Hoover, Karri Martin and Erin Muldoon. Groomsmen were Joey Hartegan, Jason Burritt, Bob Aduddell and Jeremy Wallace.

Bridal attendants were Jessica Clossen and Robyn Shelley. Ushers were Joel Dankenbring and Justin Clossen. Reader was Deanna Othmer. Soloist was Joy Read. The bride is a 2000 graduate of Lawrence High School. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in public administration in 2003 from Northwest Missouri State University. She is pursuing a master's degree in higher education administration. She is employed in admissions at Johnson County Community College.

The groom is a 2000 Lawrence High School graduate. He attends Johnson County Community College. He works for First Management Inc.

The couple reside in Lawrence.

Kimberly earned a master's degree in business administration from Washburn University. She is a programmer analyst for Payless ShoeSource in Topeka.

The future groom is a graduate of Perkins-Tryon High School, Perkins, Okla. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Okla. He is a distribution analyst for Payless ShoeSource in Topeka.

The couple plan a Sept. 17 wedding at First United Methodist Church in Topeka.

Gary and Ellenor Large, Linwood, will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary with a reception at 2 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Linwood Community Building.

Gary "Butch" Large and Ellenor Moore were married Aug. 14, 1965.

Gary has worked with the Local 1290 construction industry since 1966.

Ellenor is the former Linwood city clerk and former Linwood librarian.

Their children are Julie and Keith Large Jr., Linwood. They also have one grandchild.

The bride is the granddaughter of Encarnacion Bayani, Philippines, and the niece of Aimie and Richard Heitzman, Eudora. The groom is the son of Albert and Violet Brynds, Lawrence.

Maid of honor was Aimie Heitzman. Best man was Earl Brynds. Bridesmaids were Maila Ludovico and Jennifer Brynds. Flower girls were Abigail Heitzman, Olivia Heitzman and Gladys Heitzman. Candle lighters were Jeffrey Heitzman and Jaron Brynds. Ring bearer was Zekkiah Jayden Hird-Murphy.
