NWS extends winter weather advisory in Douglas County until 6 p.m. Monday

The National Weather Service in Topeka has extended a winter weather advisory for northeastern Kansas, including Douglas, Jefferson, Franklin and Shawnee counties, until 6 p.m. Monday.

One person life-flighted after accident

At least two people have been injured in a three-vehicle accident at Clinton Parkway and Lawrence Avenue. One person was flown at 9:38 p.m. by Life Star helicopter to an area hospital. Another was transported by ambulance to Lawrence memorial hospital.

Hiawatha man dies in accident on South Lawrence Trafficway, near Lecompton interchange of Kansas Turnpike

A 52-year-old Hiawatha man died Saturday after a two-vehicle accident on the Kansas Turnpike near K-10.

Emergency crews dispatched to accident near Clinton Parkway and Wakarusa Drive

Emergency crews were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident at approximately 10:45 p.m. on the 5000 block of Clinton Parkway.

Union Pacific train derailment

Union Pacific coal train derailed late Monday night in the city limits of Grantville. Twenty-three coal cars were involved in the accident. Grantville is about 25 miles west of Lawrence, along U.S. Highway 24.

Pedestrian struck and killed by train

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train Monday morning in east Lawrence, said Lawrence Police Sgt. Trent McKinley. Railroad workers called the incident in at around 11:10 a.m. Police secured an area near the Santa Fe railroad station on Seventh and New York streets, and were investigating along with BSNF staff.

5 hospitalized after head-on collision on U.S. Highway 56

Two Overbrook women, a Missouri woman and two Baldwin City children were injured in a head-on crash Tuesday afternoon on U.S. Highway 56 in southwestern Douglas County.

Snowy Owl Rescue

A snowy owl with a broken wing was rescued Monday afternoon near 31st and Iowa.

I-70 Accident

Interstate 70 is now clear after several vehicles were involved in an accident around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday at westbound mile marker 194, near Lecompton. A jackknifed semi-trailer had been blocking traffic on I-70.

Free State high bomb threat

Free State High School was evacuated and all classes are canceled Thursday because of a bomb threat. According to Julie Boyle, district spokeswoman, Lawrence police are at the school and are investigating. The bomb threat was in writing and was found this morning, Boyle said.

Iowa Street Standoff

Police took a man into custody Tuesday night after a nearly two-hour standoff outside a mobile home in the 3300 block of Iowa Street. The man in custody is alleged to have threatened a police officer with a gun.
